Decades I, II, and III

This series of wooden book sculptures is an exploration of how we share our life stories without the use of words. These “books” are autobiographical in nature, with the items and objects inside reflecting the uniqueness of our individual lives. In these meticulously crafted hardcover books, viewers encounter my life story through precious objects that reveal intimate histories and personal secrets. These objects, representing decades of a life lived with celebrations and heartaches, are connected to particular experiences. Collected and protected with care, they serve as representations of my life. This invokes reflection on ones own life journey, the aspects we choose to keep close to us, and the ways we share them with others. It is only when we strip away the veneers that we can find a cathartic, challenging, painful, and beautiful ending to the stories we have.
